Text Work sample Year 7 - 8 Chinese Second-Language Learner Pathway: Game constructing sentences with Chinese characters

This work sample demonstrates evidence of student learning in relation to aspects of the achievement standards for Year 7 and 8 Game constructing sentences with Chinese characters. The primary purpose for the work sample is to demonstrate the standard, so the focus is on what is evident in the sample not how it was created. The sample is an authentic representation of student work and may contain errors such as spelling mistakes and other inaccuracies. In this work sample students: • locate and respond to information in texts and use non-verbal, visual and contextual cues to help make meaning • respond in Chinese or English, and demonstrate understanding of context, purpose and audience in texts • use some familiar characters and Pinyin to support learning • approximate Chinese sound patterns, tones, intonation and rhythms, and recognise the function of tone-syllables and Pinyin • demonstrate understanding that Chinese has rules for characters, grammar, non-verbal, spoken and written communication.
